If you’ve spent time with Fallout 4 then you know that conversations are one of the most important aspects of the game. Saying the right thing at the right time can unlock additional content, change entire missions, or alter the outcome of important events in the story.
Even more important than regular conversations are the Persuade options, which perform a check on your character and a random die roll to see if you pass. These can really change things for the better, or make your situation even worse. There’s some tricks to the system that will help you make it through, so here’s a quick guide for how to pass ever persuade option.
Just so we’re on the same page, let me describe what the persuasion options are within Fallout 4’s conversation system. Normally when speaking with another character you will be presented with four options of what to say. These should be green, but if you need to persuade then they’ll look different. They will be highlighted in yellow, orange, or red depending on the difficulty. If you have these options and want to pick them, you’ll want to read on for the tips on how to pass almost every time.
The first and most important tip also comes with a big caveat. It’s a bit of a cheat, though it works surprisingly well, so you might find yourself OK with fudging the rules a bit. This tip essentially boils down to save and load if the persuasion check fails. Even inside of a conversation you can quicksave using the F5 button on PC (not sure if there is a button on Xbox One or PS4). Once you see that yellow, orange, or red just quicksave and choose it. If it fails you can load that save and try again. This kind of defeats the purpose of building up your character, and definitely breaks immersion, but if you really have to pass the check this is one way to do it.
Now on to some more legitimate ways to boost your chances. Persuasion checks are referencing your Charisma stat, along with various perks associated with it. You can get perks, such as Lady Killer or Black Widow that raise the chances of passing when speaking with a member of the opposite sex. You can also just raise your Charisma, which should help immensely.
Even without maxing out your Charisma skill, there’s one other way to help. Certain clothes will give you a boost to Charisma, such as the red dress, which gives it two extra levels. Once you find something that boosts your Charisma just carry it around with you. If you get into a conversation that needs to do a persuasion check you can look away and pull out your Pip-Boy and swap clothes. Throw on the red dress or whatever you have that raises Charisma (even if you’re a male you can wear the dress) and get back into the conversation by looking directly at the other character.
Using these tips you should be able to pass any persuade check within Fallout 4.

The generations of Vault jumpsuits.
This is a lore summary, presenting intradiegetic or in-universe information about the subject. For game characteristics and similar data, consult the table on the right. |

Vault jumpsuits or Vault suits (the terms are used interchangeably) are the iconic gear of Vault dwellers and by and large the symbol of Vault-Tec Corporation. They appear in all Fallout games. However, in Fallout and Fallout 2 they are worn by the player character by default and in Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, Fallout 76 and Van Buren, they appear as actual in-game items. In Fallout Tactics and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, they are not usable by the player.

Background[edit | edit source]
Designed specifically for use within Vaults, jumpsuits are an inexpensive, easily produced solution to the age-old problem of clothing large numbers of people while maintaining a modicum of comfort and utility. Within the Vaults, they are also meant to reduce tension by providing every dweller with the same type of clothes, regardless of their standing. Marketed as a fashionable, comfortable design,[1] Before the War, they were an instantly recognizable symbol of both Vaults and the corporation behind them, featuring the iconic blue-and-yellow color scheme. The corporation deliberately exploited the recognizability, with the company mascot, Vault Boy, sporting a set of rubber coveralls, and introducing awards named after the jumpsuit, such as the Pressed Vault Suit Award for preparedness, all to get people used to the mandated uniformity and planned economy of a Vault.[2]
Once Vaults were activated, all dwellers that managed to enter the Vault would be expected to change into their jumpsuits as soon as possible.[3] However, delays could happen: As Vault suits are designed with biometric identification systems in addition to the big, bold Vault number on the back, and discrepancies in scans would delay issuance of a suit.[4] To accommodate the influx, Vaults had a stock of jumpsuits on hand, shipped ahead of time in vacuum-sealed packages, ten per box.[5] Worn-out or damaged suits would be replaced using existing stocks and later manufactured using jumpsuit extruders installed in every Vault (though some were designed to fail, as part of the Vault experiment).[6] Vault-Tec also supplied the design to the Enclave, for use within its civilian facilities, such as the Presidential rig.[7]
Regardless of generation, jumpsuits proved to be a rugged, durable piece of equipment that could be readily accessorized. Vault dwellers commonly wore them together with a variety of equipment according to their job: Durable lab coats with scientific equipment,[8] stripped-down versions for maintenance work,[9] and body armor and protective helmets for security personnel.[10][11] Dwellers who ventured into the wasteland commonly modified their suits with a variety of improvised armor or improved linings.[12][13]

Extruded rubber[edit | edit source]
A group of Vault 13 citizens in extruded rubber jumpsuits.
A form-fitting suit model manufactured as single piece coveralls from extruded rubber, easy to keep clean and quite resilient. Compared to later models, this version of the jumpsuit is quite rudimentary.[14]
This model of the suit was used by both dwellers of early generation Vaults and citizens of the Enclave on the oil rig, though those did not include a number on the back. Similarly, the denizens of Vault City used modified models without the 8 on the back, as they were no longer denizens of a Vault.[15][16] Oddly enough, despite the rubber material, the jumpsuit could be pressed to enhance its appearance.[17]
Everyman Vault suit[edit | edit source]
An 'everyman' uniform.
Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas
A rugged jumpsuit variant designed for heavy use among Vault-Tec machinery and infrastructure. Rather than extruded rubber, the suit uses a combination of denim - a quintessentially American material - and natural leather,[18][19][20] combined to create a particularly rugged piece of equipment. The suit is less form fitting than other jumpsuit variants, but provides a good deal of comfort. Like other versions, it's a single-piece uniform, with a zipper down the front, leather armguards, and spacious pockets on the waist and thighs. Reinforced elbows and knees give it extra durability under heavy use, with the interface port over the left breast used for a variety of purposes. Depending on the job assignment, the jumpsuit is designed to accommodate a variety of belts, including simple leather bands for children, rugged multi-purpose belts for general use, and specialized equipment for utility, lab, and security work.[21][22]

Advanced Vault suit[edit | edit source]
The advanced suit, as issued to Vault 111 dwellers.
Fallout 4, Fallout 76
The advanced Vault suit is a return to the form-fitting style that characterized the earliest jumpsuits, updated with the latest high-tech materials and technological solutions available to the Vault-Tec Corporation. It's a single-piece suit designed to hug the user's body shape. Various biometric sensors are integrated into the suit to interface with the Vault's systems, while the iconic yellow strip on the front is now made of gold foil, rather than dyed material, to act as a heat-dissipation strip and antenna for the biometric sensors integrated in the suit.[23][24]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
“Designing, or redesigning the vault suit meant adhering to canon, and updating the textures and tactile feel for the detail we can achieve now in games. I opted for a more durable denim like material, something quintessentially American and, suited to carrying out vault tasks involving heavy machinery and crawling through metal pipes.
Overall, the vault suit seems to represent an Everyman/Everywoman uniform of conformity, and a blank canvas for accessorizing once the wearer had escaped into the harsh environment of the wasteland. Preserving the retro 50’s flavor seemed to support this, and I wanted the suit to feel at home in a classic 50’s sci-fi film like Forbidden Planet. The reinforced elbows and knees seemed to introduce a bit of that flair to the otherwise oppressively Orwellian environment.
”— Adam Adamowicz on designing the suit for Fallout 3“Fallout 4 Legendary Armor Effects
Creating a skintight costume in bright blue and yellow and not having it come across as goofy looking was a considerable design challenge. We achieved this by focusing on an interesting mix of patterns and textures for the high-tech materials and adding details that grounded the design.
For the iconic yellow stripe, we went with a metallic gold foil that serves as a heat-dissipation strip and works with the biometric sensors integrated in the suit.
”— The Art of Fallout 4 p.15- Joanne Lynette's talking head is recycled from a version of the game where she was the spokesperson for Area 51 scientists, and thus her suit has subtle differences: A very large neckline and a hood.[25]

Ashur's power armor is a stylized variant of the T-45 power armor owned by Ashur, the leader of the Pitt raiders.

Background[edit | edit source]
The following section is transcluded from T-45 power armor. To modify, please edit the source page.
The T-45 powered combat infantry armor was the first design pressed into service in the Sino-American War,[1] with its first deployments taking place on the Alaskan Front to counter the Chinese offensive. The speed at which it had to be deployed, less than two years after the development of power armor began, resulted in the creation of a stop-gap model utilizing existing technologies and manufacturing techniques. This temporary solution would eventually become the mainstay of American power armor units, especially as subsequent upgrades reduced the impact of the mobility problems that plagued the early production runs.[2][3]The most important was the implementation of back-mounted fusion packs, rather than relying on the limited supply of small energy cells, consumed by the armor at an alarming rate.[4]
The T-45 model D (its most popular variant) is designed for a single operator and is patterned closely after the human silhouette. It consists of three layers. The first is a black body suit worn by the operator for comfort, insulation, and protection from injuries that may be sustained during the armor's operation. The second layer of the armor is part of the power armor proper. Commonly referred to as recon armor when used on its own, it is a full body suit made of thick, processed fabric with integrated metal plating that serves as a platform for attaching the armor and on-board hardware.[5] The recon armor is, in effect, the underlying chassis of the T-45d power armor model. Its attachment points and power cell plug at the nape of the neck are essential for the operation of the full T-45d power armor, as the third layer consists of the armor, the fusion power cell, as well as the hydraulics and servomotors that allow the operator to carry heavy ordnance into combat and bear the weight of the armor. The helmet completes the third layer and includes an air filtration system, a bullet-proof vision slit,[6] an electric lamp, and external ports that allow the operator to listen to his surroundings and double as attachments points for extensions. The standard upgrade is a drop-down ocular.[7][8]
The ability to operate crew-served weapons and heavy ordnance alone is one of the key advantages offered by the T-45d power armor. Although the T-45d (and indeed, no power armor to date) had no built-in weapons, the operator could use any kind of weapon that could be fired by an infantryman.[3] Protection came in second. The use of steel plating offered a considerable advantage against most small arms and used existing technologies and materials, allowing the U.S. to quickly manufacture and deploy T-45d suits.[7] However, the armor had its limits and as the war with China dragged on, it became insufficient in both the ability to deploy firepower and protect the operator. However, as the T-51 power armor model did not arrive until 2076, the T-45d became the workhorse of the American military and a test-bed for related technologies.[3]
Following the Great War, the T-45d power armor became a rare sight and a powerful asset for anyone who can procure such a suit. The principal operator of the armor is the Brotherhood of Steel and its children chapters, with the largest known numbers being utilized by the rogue Lyons' Brotherhood of Steel and the loyalist Outcasts. In general, off-duty troops and trainees prefer to wear the armor without the armored layer, allowing them to quickly deploy when needed, but without the encumbrance of full power armor.
Variant details[edit | edit source]
Through years of misuse, makeshift repairs with whatever materials available and constant use, it is a rusty, highly stylized suit of power armor. The left arm of the suit was replaced with the sleeve and glove of the raider iconoclast armor, a brahmin skull substituted for the left pauldron and various bits and pieces of metal were used to patch holes in the structure of it.
Characteristics[edit | edit source]
Ashur's armor is one of the best power armor suits when it comes to bonuses, providing a +1 bonus to Strength, Charisma, and Luck and +10 to radiation resistance. Its only drawback is a -1 penalty to Agility, common to most suits. As with all power armor variants, it requires power armor training to use.
If Free Labor is completed, Midea and Wernher will have unique dialogue, reacting to the player if they wear the power armor.
Variants[edit | edit source]
- T-45d power armor: Standard variant.
- Tribal power armor: The 'generic' (yet still unique) variant of Ashur's armor.
Comparison[edit | edit source]
Name | DR | Weight | Effects |
---|---|---|---|
T-45d power armor | 40 | 45 | ST +2, AG - 2, Radiation resistance +10 |
Tribal power armor | 35 | 40 | LK +1, ST +1, AG -1, AP +15, Melee Weapons +5 |
Ashur's power armor | 40 | 45 | LK +1, ST +1, AG -1, CH +1, Radiation Resistance +10 |
Location[edit | edit source]
- Non-player characters
- Ishmael Ashur wears it. One of two ways to obtain it is to kill him, either at the end of Free Labor or by hacking the turret terminal in his office (75 Science required) and turning it hostile to everyone.
- Alternatively, the player can plant a well repaired suit of armor with higher Damage Threshold on Ashur, which will cause him to automatically swap outfits. Then the armor can be stolen.
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
- The armor's color scheme is similar to the official Pittsburgh colors (black and gold versus dark brown and yellow).

Devices designed for the fusion cell begin to be manufactured. Incorporating fusion power into the general US infrastructure begins, but the process is too slow to supply power to the regions that need it. Nearly eleven years later, few sections of the United States were supplied with fusion power.
